Character of the Week: Hiei

Hiei is a fire apparition whose true origins are unknown in the beginning. He is a master swordsman, and his strength and speed are incredible. However, these are hardly his most fearsome abilities. Typically kept concealed behind a bandanna on his forehead is the Jagan, a mysterious third eye that possesses magical properties. With it he can control weak-minded humans, send telepathic messages, and move objects telekinetic-ally. Hiei is fiercely independent, and his raw ambition drives him to pursue his own agenda at all times. Although he generally cares little for human life, and views others as mere obstacles in the pursuit of his own goals, Hiei strictly adheres to his own unique code of honor. As such, he helps those who helps him, and is fiercely loyal to those who manage to earn his respect. ~from funimation

An ice demon from a clan of self reproducing women who were never to be with men fell in love with a fire apparition and bore twins, Hiei and Yukina. Because men were forbidden Hiei was thrown from the island as a baby. *I don't want to give to many spoilers* Standing at 4'10", he is a true example of dynamite in small packages. Not wanting to listen to what he deems nonsense he frequently says "Be quiet you fool". While he seems to be one of the good guys, Hiei wants to become a high class demon and has his own ambitions to destroy and rule (at least in the beginning). He is still deemed good in most minds of viewers (even mine), because of his loyalty to the good guys. This good/evil routine he has makes him a favorite among many of the viewers ( including my mother, sister, and myself).

I would like it to be known that I have not read much of the manga but watched all the anime, so I apologize for any unaddressed differences.
